Official co-production treaty signed between China and New Zealand

China and New Zealand have finally signed an official filming pre-production agreement that applies to feature films made for cinemas and TV. Chinese and New Zealand filmmakers working under the co-production agreement will have the same access to incentives and funding in each country as national productions.

Michael Brook, Executive Manager of Film Auckland, said: “China’s interest in film is growing at a rapid rate, which gives New Zealand access to a very large and lucrative potential market. Already Chinese producers are actively looking at New Zealand for production partners.”

The agreement is designed to help the Chinese reach a wider global audience by using New Zealand industry expertise. In addition, New Zealand could benefit from increasing domestic box office figures in China.
