Pinewood Studios plans extra stage at London facility

Filmmakers and TV productions may have access to an additional stage at Pinewood Studios in London by the end of 2012. Plans for the new development have been announced in the wake of an 8% rise in revenues at the facility for 2010.

Pinewood Shepperton said: “During the year the demand for use of the company’s stage and studio assets continued to grow. Accordingly the Board has approved, subject to detailed planning consent, the building of a unique 30,000 sq ft stage suitable for both film and television. This significant addition to stage capacity for the company of 7% is at an anticipated cost of GBP5.1 million.”

In 2010 Pinewood Shepperton facilities in the UK hosted major productions such as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Captain America: The First Avenger, X-Men: First Class and Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows. In addition to boosting its appeal to big-budget productions, Pinewood Shepperton will also be looking to lend more support to smaller British films with budgets of around GBP2 million.

The company recently announced the development of a new facility in Dominican Republic in partnership with Indomina Group.
