Pinewood Studios signs agreement to set up centre of excellence

Pinewood Studios has signed an agreement to set up a new centre of excellence that will provide young people with specialist training in the screen industries. Courses will focus on visual effects, videogames and support services.

The training will be run in conjunction with Amersham & Wycombe College, and most of the students will be between the ages of 16 and 24. Innovative teaching methods will allow students to pursue training opportunities with other companies on the Pinewood lot at the same time.

Andrew Smith is Director of Strategy and Communication at Pinewood: “By basing the centre at Pinewood it will allow students to work with and learn from industry colleagues who are at the top of their game, working on award-winning and international productions on a daily basis.

We are especially pleased that this announcement comes as the government introduces its new system of tax relief for high end TV, animation and video games.

Pinewood Shepperton Studios had a strong 2012, hosting high-profile shoots like Skyfall and Les Miserables, while also making an agreement to manage the Isle of Man Treasury’s GBP25 million film fund.
