Popular Wrigley’s Extra commercial filmed on location in Madrid
Production company Rattling Stick filmed their latest commercial for Wrigley’s Extra ‘The Story of Sarah & Juan’ in Spain’s largest city, Madrid.
We decided to shoot this commercial in Madrid due to the diversity of the locations it presented.
The commercial tells a love story of a young couple from the moment they meet up until their engagement, with Juan documenting their journey by drawing on packets of Wrigley’s Extra. This campaign has proved extremely successful with the YouTube upload of the video attracting over 10 million views.
Speaking with the project’s producer, Tess Mitchell, she explained: “we decided to shoot this commercial in Madrid due to the diversity of the locations it presented. Also funnily enough they happened to look quite American. For the cast we wanted our hero guy to look Hispanic so it seemed natural to cast him in Spain and then our hero girl in London.”
She continued: “as there is no dialogue in the script their accents were not important. Greg Kyle in London cast her and Patricia Gayo was the casting director in Spain who cast him. He was the first guy we actually saw in the first round of casting! The commercial was shot over 4 days in 35 degrees heat.
Spain’s success as a filming location has improved significantly since the introduction of an incentives system in early 2015. The country now offers up to 15% back in tax credits for an eligible spend, increasing to 35% for any productions filmed within the Canary Islands.
Madrid has attracted many productions in recent years including big budget projects such as Quantum of Solace and The Bourne Ultimatum.
