Queensland to host new ABC television series, Harrow

Brisbane and Southeast Queensland will become the hosts of a new crime-drama produced by ABC Studios International and ABC Australia. Principal photography for the series, entitled Harrow, will begin in August.

Premier and Arts Minister, Annastacia Palaszczuk explains: “the Queensland Government investment in Harrow through Screen Queensland will deliver job opportunities and skills development for the local screen industry, with broader economic benefits for Queensland. The filming will result in direct expenditure of more than AUD15 million into Queensland jobs, goods and services and has come to Queensland as a result of the AUD30 million funding injection over four years I announced for the screen industry last year.”

Queensland’s production industry has expanded exponentially under Palaszczuk’s administration, with bespoke incentive packages developed to attract major projects such as Thor: Ragnarok and Kong: Skull Island.

Sally Riley, ABC Head of Scripted Production adds: “ABC is thrilled to be working with the award-winning team at Hoodlum to bring the complex and compelling Harrow to life. Trying to unravel the mystery and understand just what makes (Daniel) Harrow tick will keep audiences guessing right to the end of this exciting new drama series.”

Australia’s domestic production industry is incentivised by a 40% tax offset – provided that a minimum spend of AUD500,000 is met. An international version of the incentive brings the offset down to 16.5%  on a higher minimum spend of AUD15 million.

Production activity throughout 2015-2016 brought an inward investment of AUD203 million into Queensland. The state recently announced a variety of production initiatives including one to fund domestic horror projects and another to train creatives living within the Torres Strait.
