Regional location filming incentive approved for Minnesota’s Iron Range

The Iron Range region of Minnesota in the US has had a location filming incentive approved. Filmmakers shooting in the north-east part of the state, named for its iron ore mining industry, could be eligible for a 20% rebate on local production expenditure.

Lucinda Winter is head of Minnesota Film and TV and spoke to the Duluth News Tribune shortly before the approval: “For every dollar we put into these films, we see a direct return of at least USD6, sometimes more. Some small businesses - hardware stores and coffee shops - can see their year made in the weeks that these productions are under way.”

Productions shooting in the Iron Range will also be eligible for Minnesota’s state-wide rebate, which is worth up to 20%. The regional programme has an initial fund of USD800,000, so will be targeting smaller projects.
