Revolver treats Subaru to a scenic car wash filming on location in New South Wales
A selection of classic Subaru vehicles has been treated to a transformative car wash experience by Revolver in New South Wales, Australia. The spot shows old Subarus racing across a dry lake bed into a car wash on wheels, with the brand’s newest model emerging on the other side.
The production chose Lake Bathurst near Goulburn in New South Wales as its shoot location because it offered a good look and at only a two-hour drive from Sydney it’s convenient as well. Alternative locations were considered at Lake George and Cooma, both near Canberra.
Catherine Jarman produced the spot for Revolver: “The Lake Bathurst location was chosen because it was flat and open, and the cars would be capable of driving on this surface. The Art Department built an entry of the car wash on the back of a car carrier, which was then driven across an open field while Subarus drove up the ramp and inside. A car wash model was built and shot on location against green screen on a separate day.”
[Lake Bathurst] is a great place to shoot. The landscape there is quite dramatic. Being two hours from Sydney means you can still combine travel and shooting on the same day.

A functioning car wash in Sydney was used for interior shots of the cars being cleaned, with a few windows and signs removed to allow a clear line of sight for the camera.
Jarman adds: “[Lake Bathurst] is a great place to shoot. The landscape there is quite dramatic. Being two hours from Sydney means you can still combine travel and shooting on the same day. There's good accommodation in Goulburn, about 30 minutes away.”
Filming at Lake Bathurst took place on private property and cramming everything into the three-day shoot schedule was one of the biggest challenges.
