Rhode Island retains filming incentive as Wes Anderson project shoots

Rhode Island, on the east coast of the US, has decided to keep its 25% filming tax credit for another year as filmmaker Wes Anderson shoots in the state. Governor Lincoln Chafee had singled out the scheme for cancellation to reduce the state deficit, but it seems he had a change of heart.

Steven Feinberg, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Film & Television Office, said: “For filmmakers, this means that in addition to our stunning locations, experienced crew and talent, and streamlined permitting process, you will have access to USD15 million in tax credits between now and June 30, 2012.”

A host of big names are involved with Anderson’s new film Moonrise Kingdom, including Bill Murray, Ed Norton and Bruce Willis. The project could play a significant role in elevating the state’s filmmaking profile.

M Teresa Paiva Weed, President of the Senate, said: “This project can help Rhode Island workers through jobs and internships in the film industry, use of Rhode Island vendors and further promotion of our state through exposure of its many magnificent characteristics in a feature film.”
