Richmond and Petersburg in Virginia host location filming for Spielberg’s Lincoln
Spielberg has arrived in Richmond, Virginia, to film Lincoln, a story focussing on the last months of the President’s life. Petersburg is hosting the shoot too, but filming took place last week on location at northern Richmond’s Laburnum House, a building dating to the early 1900s.
We were thrilled to have somebody like Steven Spielberg recognise the class and the quality of the facility and want to use it.
Jay B Lafler, Laburnum House
Jay B Lafler manages the property and spoke to the Richmond Times-Dispatch: “It didn’t fit the time period for Lincoln per se - the 1860s - but some of the rooms were ideal for what they could make them to be. We were thrilled to have somebody like Steven Spielberg recognise the class and the quality of the facility and want to use it.”
Lincoln was awarded a host of filming incentives to draw it to Virginia. Among them was USD2.5 million from the Virginia Motion Picture Tax Credit programme and USD1 million from the Governor’s Motion Picture Opportunity Fund.
