Russell Crowe films Noah epic on location in Iceland with Darren Aronofsky

Russell Crowe is in Iceland filming Darren Aronofsky’s epic drama Noah. It’s the latest in a series of high-profile projects to have sought Iceland’s unique landscapes. Next the production heads to Oyster Bay just outside New York City where an ark is being built.

Meanwhile both Aronofsky and Crowe have been tweeting about their on-set experiences in Iceland, where they’re working with servicing company Truenorth. The actor seems to have been particularly taken by the landscapes: “I’m living on a vast plain of volcanic ash in the lee of a volcanic glacier.

Crowe adds: “The commute to work is a hike up a mountain ... Wind tears the volcanic desert, ash and sand arcing in 40-foot waves across the plain; in the distance the somnambulant glacier leaks.”

Both Iceland and New York are major production centres. Iceland has attracted Tom Cruise’s upcoming sci-fi Oblivion in recent months, as well as providing eye-catching visuals for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.
