Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe filmed in Atlanta and Los Angeles for The Nice Guys

The Nice Guys, starring Ryan Gosling (The Big Short) and Russell Crowe (Noah) descended upon Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles and Northyards Boulevard in Atlanta to film on location. The production also visited California’s Covina Bowl which has retained its retro aesthetic and fits the film’s period setting perfectly.

Crowe and Gosling star as Jackson Healy and Holland March respectively, two inept private investigators who are forced to work together to investigate the death of a porn star in 1970s Los Angeles.

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2016 where it received critically positive reviews. By filming in both California and Georgia, The Nice Guys has access to two of the most competitive film incentive programmes within the United States.

For feature films that have a minimum budget of USD1 million, California provides 20% in non-transferable tax credits from a specifically allocated fund of USD69 million. The incentive can be bumped up to 25% however through a series of uplifts that include filming outside of Los Angeles and utilising local post-production facilities. Independent films can qualify for the 25% without meeting extra criteria.

Georgia on the other hand offers a core rate of 20% in transferable tax credits, with a 10% uplift available by promoting Georgia’s film industry. What has made the incentive so appealing is that it only requires a minimum spend of USD500,000 which when coupled with Georgia’s large amount of studio space and film friendly atmosphere, has made the state one of the most popular filming locations in the world.

Georgia’s list of recent productions includes Captain America: Civil War and Adam Sandler’s new Netflix comedy, The Do-Over.

The Nice Guys will be in cinemas nationwide from June 3^rd 2016.
