Sam Mendes’ Bond film Skyfall shoot cancels Duntrune Castle location filming

Sam Mendes’ Bond film Skyfall has abruptly cancelled plans to film at Duntrune Castle in western Scotland. The 800-year-old historic home is situated in an isolated spot in Lochgilphead in Argyll and was set for a February 2012 shoot, but it seems the producers have changed their minds.

Sam Mendes was keen but maybe, when he had all those people up from various fields, some of them said it wasn’t going to work here.

Robin Malcolm lives in the castle with his wife Patricia and told the Scotsman: “They were going to build a false front for the castle, so they have had surveyors working here. Sam Mendes was keen but maybe, when he had all those people up from various fields, some of them said it wasn’t going to work here.”

At a press conference earlier this month officially announcing the film’s cast and title, the producers said the project would be filming on location in Scotland, in addition to China, Turkey and London’s Whitehall. Eon Productions hasn’t clarified whether they’ll be looking for alternatives in Scotland or somewhere else entirely.
