Scottish castle set for use in Sam Mendes’ James Bond film

A 12th Century castle in western Scotland will be an exterior shoot location for Sam Mendes’ new Bond film. Duntrune Castle near Lochgilphead in Argyll will be shot in February 2012. The region has a rich history and the castle itself was originally built to guard Kilmartin and Kilmichael glens.

They are using the castle - just the outside. It’s going to be used for the end of the film. I think it is meant to be James Bond’s ancestral home.

Patrica Malcolm, Duntrune Castle

Patricia Malcolm lives in the castle with her husband Robin: “They are coming here at the end of February and are going to film for several days. They are using the castle - just the outside. It’s going to be used for the end of the film. I think it is meant to be James Bond’s ancestral home - he will bring all the villains here.”

Istanbul and South Africa are also thought to be likely locations for the new film, which recently abandoned a planned India shoot. Daniel Craig will once again play Bond in the new film.
