Steven Spielberg’s Terra Nova commits to season-long filming in Queensland
Big-budget TV series Terra Nova, which has Steven Spielberg onboard as an Executive Producer, has committed to filming a complete first season on location in Queensland. Footage was filmed in the tail-end of 2010 mostly for the show’s pilot.
The series launch has been put back to the autumn, officially as a result of delays with the visual effects, although reports also suggest there have been creative differences behind the camera.
This entire production is massive in scale and we are privileged to be a part of it through our talent and locations, with over 1,000 Queenslanders engaged comprising crew, cast and extras.
Maureen Barron, CEO, Screen Queensland
Maureen Barron, Chief Executive Officer of Screen Queensland, said: “In addition to the lush Queensland rainforests that evoke the age of dinosaurs, the production involves cutting-edge visual effects to bring those primeval creatures to life. This entire production is massive in scale and we are privileged to be a part of it through our talent and locations, with over 1,000 Queenslanders engaged comprising crew, cast and extras.”
Australia has seen a sharp reduction in international production recently, as a result of both increased competition and fluctuations in the Australian dollar. Terra Nova is the only international project currently hosted by the country, although Australian filmmaker Baz Luhrmann will be doubling Sydney for New York in a high-profile production of The Great Gatsby.
