TLG to host International Category at Rushes Soho Shorts Festival 2012
Rushes Soho Shorts Festival 2012 takes place in London for ten days from 11th July. Jean-Frédéric Garcia, Publishing Director at The Location Guide, will be hosting the award for the International Category at the final ceremony on 19th July.
Nearly 200 short films from 22 countries will be screened during the festival, which has been running annually for the past 14 years. The festival celebrates talent showcased in short films that are usually less than 15 minutes long.
This year’s International Category features entries from countries as diverse as Bangladesh, Romania, Ireland and New Zealand, while awards will also be given out in music video and animation categories, as well as long form work that can extend to 30 minutes.
Joe Bateman is the Festival Director: “The calibre of work entered is as strong as it ever was; in fact the work is getting better every year across all entries. It’s making the short-listing process increasingly hard especially with live action work where production values are definitely increasing alongside the filmmakers’ ability to drive the narrative through their work.”
Alongside the regular festival awards, this year will also see the inaugural Pushing Boundaries category that showcases special creativity and is an amalgamation of the Experimental Film and Broadcast Design categories of past festivals. Entries include TED Talk 2023, an online short that was part of the promotional campaign for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.

Jean-Frédéric Garcia said: “The Location Guide is very proud to be involved with the Rushes Soho Shorts Festival 2012 in an official capacity as we’re a long-time supporter. To be presenting the International Category award is particularly exciting, given the quality of the work that we see at the festival every year.”
The festival will also be running a series of sessions exploring how to develop directing careers and the challenges of balancing commercial work with more independent projects. There will also be nine guest programmes of shorts from festivals in countries including Australia, Denmark and Spain.
The screenings will take place throughout Soho and London’s West End, with the awards ceremony taking place at the Curzon Soho and an after-party at Cafe De Paris.
