Toyota Hilux delivers a fire-breathing wild boar on location in New Zealand

Toyota sports creative flair with a new spot for its Hilux vehicle, filmed on New Zealand’s South Island. Tougher Than You Can Imagine shows a driver telling the story of an epic wilderness drive capped by encounters with a fire-breathing wild boar and a chimp that demands ice cream.

The filming locations were found in Central Otago around the production hub of Queenstown. Shooting took place over the New Zealand winter and the production got lucky with the weather, with a blizzard only closing in once the team had enjoyed five days of clear skies.

Jane Oak is Head of Content at Saatchi & Saatchi Auckland: “The locations were all based in relatively close proximity to Queenstown and Central Otago in the South Island. We were after locations with epic scope and grandeur and these areas are blessed with a multitude of options.

“The intention was always to shoot locations we could group in this general area and cover within five days. They were chosen to be the backdrop of an epic New Zealand story located in the imagination of the storyteller.”

Queenstown is one of the busiest production hubs in the southern hemisphere due to the filmmaking infrastructure on offer and the spectacular local landscapes. Carlsberg and Harnas beer are among the brands to have filmed in and around Queenstown in recent months, and Peter Jackson’s Hobbit films are also shooting in the region.
