Universal films second-unit car chase on location on Rhode Island

Rhode Island may have the pleasant east-coast scenery and hospitable locals, but it’s not generally known for action-packed film shoots. Universal is breaking the norm for two days this week with a second-unit car chase shoot for comic-book adaptation R.I.P.D., which is slated for summer 2013.

Steven Feinberg is Executive Director of the Rhode Island Film Office: “We’re excited to welcome Universal Studios to the city of Providence and state of Rhode Island for what should be a spectacular shoot. The team producing this sequence is composed of top-notch professionals who are the best in their field.

The State Film Office is working in conjunction with the City of Providence's Art, Culture and Tourism Office and we're delighted to open our doors to this feature film.

Rhode Island doesn’t have a high profile as a prolific filmmaking state, although it did recently host Wes Anderson’s new film, Moonrise Kingdom. The state offers a 25% tax credit, but it’s confirmed only for the next year (after nearly being withdrawn a few months ago) and has a relatively small USD15 million fund.

R.I.P.D. stands for Rest In Peace Department and tells the story of a group of undead police officers hunting the killer of one of their newest members.
