Will Smith’s After Earth films on location in California's Humboldt Redwoods State Park

Will Smith’s new sci-fi thriller After Earth has filmed on location in northern California. The project spent about two weeks in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, a 53,000-acre region of the state that’s dominated by old-growth coast redwood trees.

Bennett Walsh is Executive Producer on the film and spoke to the Times-Standard: “I think the parks have been phenomenal because they're a character in the film. The director [and] Will - they love what they've been getting here.

Every place we're going to, we're going for the look. You also have to have the infrastructure. We soak up a lot of resources. We roll in like a storm.

After Earth is set a thousand years in the future and follows a father and son as they crash-land on a strange planet. Other filming locations on the shoot have included Costa Rica and Utah.
