Young Director Award 2012 opens for entries
Entries are now being accepted for the CFP-E (Commercial Film Producers of Europe)/Shots Young Director Award competition. It’s an opportunity for up-and-coming Directors to have their films seen by industry experts and then to find a wider audience at Cannes Lions if they’re chosen as a shortlisted entry.
Directors can enter their films into one of several different categories, including broadcast commercial, web film, music video and branded short film. This year the organisers have added categories for animation and video art to help broaden the competition’s reach even further.
François Chilot is President of Les Producers and the CFP-E: “People have come to me and my colleagues over the past few years and asked about an animation category. We decided to include it as it’s so difficult to judge an animation against a live-action entry and we wanted to recognise specialist Directors, as well as improvements in animation technology.
The video art category came about because we wanted to open up the competition to people who don’t necessarily have formal filmmaking training but have something to say and are looking to inspire others.

“The video art category came about because we wanted to open up the competition to people who don’t necessarily have formal filmmaking training but have something to say and are looking to inspire others. One of the messages is that art is a basis of advertising.”
Work submitted by Directors must be one of the first four they made between January 1st 2011 and April 14th 2012, and April 27th 2012 is the deadline for this year’s competition.
