American miniseries Marisa Romanov to be filmed in the country of Georgia

Based on the award winning short film of the same name, Marisa Romanov is an American television miniseries that is set to be filmed in the country of Georgia. The show will be produced by Noirtainment and will star Rafael Zubizaretta (Prison Break) alongside Kate Orsini (Bones), with Miranda Spigener-Sapon acting as Showrunner.

The show will depict an American journalist as she travels to Georgia in an attempt to uncover her family history, unaware of the danger that lies behind finding the truth.

Marisa Romanov will be one of the first American productions to film on location in Georgia since it was announced that the country would be introducing an incentive programme in 2016.

The Head of Export and Distribution at the Georgian National Film Centre, David Vashadze previously said of the rebate: “we think that this decision is crucial for the Georgian film industry. There are many film production companies looking for new and diverse territories. Low bureaucracy and a film friendly atmosphere are very important, but without financial incentives the possibility of attracting a big number of foreign productions is not very high.”

Georgia’s brand new 20% cash rebate was announced in December 2015, shortly before both Estonia and Ukraine announced that their own form of incentive systems would be implemented in the coming months.

Prior to the incentive scheme, Georgia’s film and television industry was largely compiled of regional productions such as the nationally popular television shows, Friends of my Wife/Chemi Tsolis Dakalebi and In the City/Shua Kalakshi.
