The future of Michigan’s filming incentive has become more uncertain with the Governor advocating a significant cut from the film fund. Reducing the fund will mean the state will struggle to appeal to big-budget features on the scale of Batman V Superman.
Authorities in Buffalo in Western New York State have called for consultancy help to promote the city as a filming location. Empire Visual Effects was opened in Buffalo in mid-2013 and has worked on productions like TV drama The Leftovers and acclaimed movie A Most Violent Year.
Filming for the movie version of the wildly popular erotic novel Fifty Shades Of Grey helped boost production on Vancouver’s North Shore last year. The shoot included stage work at North Shore Studios, as well as location filming across the city.
A second series of murder drama The Tunnel will return to film on location in Kent in southern England. The show is a remake of Scandinavian drama The Bridge and the first series charted a joint English-French investigation following a murder in the centre of the Channel Tunnel.
Filming wraps today in Bristol on a special episode of the BBC’s hit drama series Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Scenes were filmed at the team’s production base in The Bottle Yard Studios and on location around the city.
New Norwegian-Czech feature The Christmas King – In Full Armour is filming at Barrandov Studios in Prague. Based on the Norwegian TV series Julekongen, the shoot has already filmed on location in the area, including at two nearby Czech castles.
Planned spending figures from the California Film Commission reveal that TV production will be prioritised under the state’s boosted filming incentive. State authorities are more than tripling the annual film fund and expanding support to big-budget movies and TV shoots.
Filming took place partly in Bristol in the west of England for the BBC’s new three-part TV drama The Casual Vacancy, based on JK Rowling’s adult novel. Bristol has become a popular western England filming location and shoots are frequently based at The Bottle Yard Studios.
