Actress Anne Hathaway is set to star in new TV miniseries The Ambassador’s Wife. Based on a fictional novel by Jennifer Steil, the wife of a former British Ambassador to Yemen, the story will focus on the wife of an ambassador kidnapped in a Middle Eastern country.
Amazon adventure movie Lost City of Z has started filming in Belfast and will later shoot on location in Colombia. The Northern Ireland capital offers Titanic Studios, where HBO’s hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones is based.
New Chinese feature film Lost in the Pacific is being billed as the country’s first English-language 3D sci-fi action adventure film and has picked up strong pre-sales in South-East Asia. China is hoping that the movie’s English-language content will aid western distribution.
New period series The Durrells will film on the Greek island of Corfu. The drama will follow the true-life escapades of Louisa Durrell, a widow who moved her family to Corfu in 1935. The Durrells is the latest in a growing period sub-genre that includes Channel 4’s Indian Summers.
New children’s fantasy Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them has started filming at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in north-west London. Written by JK Rowling, the movie is set 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter stories and stars Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne.
Disney’s ABC Studios has started filming a second series of the fairy tale comedy Galavant at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol. Galavant will spend 16 weeks shooting on purpose-built sets in the Tank House 3 space.
New HBO drama Westworld will get incentive support to film scenes on location in Utah. The series is adapted from the famous 1973 movie of the same name which saw holidaymakers hunted by malfunctioning android cowboys in a futuristic theme park.
Plate shots for the ‘Giant’s Land’ of Steven Spielberg’s film of Roald Dahl’s The BFG have been shot on the Isle of Skye in western Scotland. Skye is becoming more popular as a filming location and will appear in Justin Kurzel’s adaptation of Macbeth, starring Michael Fassbender.
