A new map has been launched to promote regional film tourism in Scotland's Borders region south of Edinburgh. The campaign marks filming locations used by nearly two dozen movies and TV productions since the early 70s.
British TV drama Indian Summers is filming a second series and will again double the Penang region of Malaysia for Simla in northern India. The new season is set in 1935 and follows a story of social drama and adultery in the last days of the British Empire’s colonial presence in India.
Michael Gambon will play Sir Winston Churchill in a TV movie set nearly a decade after the Second World War. Churchill’s Secret will film in London and Kent and will look at events in 1953 when the re-elected Prime Minister suffered a serious stroke that was not made public.
A full series of new historical drama The Bastard Executioner will be filmed on location in Wales after a successful pilot shoot. Wales is already the long-term host of historical drama Da Vinci’s Demons, which doubles the country for Renaissance Italy.
Authorities in Limerick in western Ireland have bought a former factory building with the intention of turning it into a major film studio. Ireland is becoming a more popular filming location but high-profile TV dramas like Vikings and Ripper Street are based in Dublin.
Pinewood Studios has announced a production partnership with Centroid, a company that specialises in full performance capture technology. Centroid is already based at Pinewood and has been involved with Guardians of the Galaxy and Godzilla.
Television docudrama American Genius filmed on location in West Virginia and tells the stories of a selection of America’s most renowned inventors. The series was produced by Stephen David, whose previous West Virginia projects have included docudrama The World Wars.
The BBC will film the Second World War TV drama My Mother And Other Strangers on location in Northern Ireland. Belfast is a popular filming location for UK TV productions and also hosts the huge international hit Game of Thrones.
