Ile de France
Ile de France is one of the country’s 26 administrative regions and mostly comprises the metropolitan region of Paris. The potent sense of history is perhaps its biggest attribute and it’s a veritable goldmine of locations for filmmakers seeking stately homes, grand palaces and an easy conduit to one of the epicentres of European culture.
Some 11 million people live here – that’s 20% of the country’s population – so production crews can take advantage of world-class infrastructure and accommodation. Still, it’s not all about the urban history. There’s an agricultural industry here too, while locations such as the Forest of Fontainebleau can be found just 60 kilometres from the capital and offer a change of scenery for roving lenses.
While filmmakers can benefit from the nationwide Tax Rebate for International Production, the Ile de France Region’s Support Fund for Film and Audiovisual Technical Industries also offers grants to eligible productions.
