Florida’s filming industry is looking for more money for its film fund. Back in 2010 the state launched filming incentives worth up to 30%, with the money coming from a film fund worth more than USD240 million over five years. It’s been a popular programme and much of the cash is now allocated.

Alaska’s filming industries are renewing their call for a ten-year extension to the state’s existing incentive programme. The current scheme is worth USD100 million and expires in 2013, but supporters are campaigning for a lengthy extension that could attract more long-term projects.
A major expansion plan at Pinewood Studios in the UK has been halted. ‘Project Pinewood’ would have included a 100-acre set, but planning permission has been refused. The development would have included permanent sets for cities like New York, Venice and New Orleans.
One of our most popular stories this week has been news of HBO TV show Game of Thrones filming on location in Iceland for its second season. Over in the US New Mexico has finally secured location filming for The Lone Ranger, while North Carolina may be on target to become a major production centre.
North Carolina and its EUE/Screen Gem Studios are likely to have a strong 2012 given the state’s 2011 success. Figures from the North Carolina Film Office show the state almost tripled its annual takings from direct production spend, making some USD220 million.
The AFCI (Association of Film Commissioners International) Locations Show 2012 will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center on 15th and 16th June. AFCI head Martin Cuff is looking forward to a show where a major theme will be the supply of relevant information for film companies.
