Producers on the BBC’s new fantasy drama series Atlantis have sought permission to expand their filming facilities in Wales in time for the show’s second series. Atlantis has been filming at retrofitted studio facilities in a former supermarket storage warehouse in Chepstow, east of Cardiff.
The BBC has reiterated plans to increase its Northern Ireland location filming in the coming years. In 2012 the corporation filmed just 1.3% of its overall content in the region - including crime drama Line of Duty - but it wants to more than double this figure by 2016.
The BBC’s zombie drama In The Flesh has started filming a second series in north-west England. Continuing from a three-part opening run, the show is set in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse as the undead are treated for ‘Partially Deceased Syndrome’ and reintegrated into society.
Ireland has expanded its generous filming incentive package to cover salaries from talent originating outside the European Union (EU), which will include US star salaries. The move will help the country compete with the UK and could help attract more productions like Vikings.
A production deal has been agreed between the BBC and The Weinstein Company on a new TV production of the epic Tolstoy novel War and Peace. First published in 1869, the book is set in early 19th Century Russia but is likely to be filmed on location in the UK.
New BBC comedy Ambassadors, starring British comedy duo David Mitchell and Robert Webb, filmed partly on location in Bursa in western Turkey. The show follows a pair of British diplomats as they set up an embassy in a fictional former Soviet satellite state in central Asia.
Kiefer Sutherland will film a miniseries continuation of his hit action drama 24 on location in London. The regular 24 series ended in 2010 but Live Another Day will see the return of Jack Bauer and will be filmed in the coming months for broadcast in summer 2014.
Kevin Macdonald filmed his new feature How I Live Now on location in Wales with rising star Saoirse Ronan. Adapted from a novel by Meg Rosoff, the film tells the story of a New York teen sent to live with cousins in the English countryside as a global conflict erupts.
