In a high-profile case of incentives uncertainty scaring off major film productions, upcoming feature The Avengers has rejected a planned location shoot in Michigan for a better deal in Ohio. The film will also shoot in New Mexico and New York.
The November mid-term elections in the US resulted in various gubernatorial changes across the country and with the changing of the guard come changing opinions towards state filming incentives.
Republican Susana Martinez, the recently-elected Governor of New Mexico, is considering plans to reduce the state’s filming incentive by a dramatic 10% in line with efforts to cut public spending.
Marvel Studios’ new ensemble superhero feature The Avengers will film partly in New Mexico. The studio has previously filmed scenes there in 2010 for Thor.
