China Film Group (CFG) has chosen the upcoming US fantasy epics Warcraft and Seventh Son for its first co-funding deal with Hollywood. The state-run company will co-produce both features alongside Legendary Pictures, the studio behind the new Godzilla movie.
Dystopian sequel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire filmed scenes on location in Hawaii, using the tropical setting for the story’s jungle and forest scenes. The film follows two young heroes competing in a life-or-death competition in a future North America ruled by a tyrannous wealthy class.
George Clooney and filmmaker Brad Bird have begun shooting their new Disney feature Tomorrowland on location in Vancouver. Very little has been revealed about the production, but the project is a welcome boost for British Columbia’s filming industry.
Gareth Edwards’ new big-budget Godzilla feature has wrapped location filming in Hawaii. The production spent several weeks shooting in the US state in the Pacific Ocean and finished after a night filming in state capital Honolulu on the island of Oahu.
Hawaii is hoping to broaden its appeal to films like the delayed Jurassic Park 4 by boosting its filming incentive programme. Places like Honolulu with larger populations will now offer filming tax credits of up to 20% (up from 15%), while the smaller islands will offer 25% (up from 20%).
