A reboot of action franchise Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has helped boost New York’s production industry with direct spending of more than USD55 million. The new film shot for over 70 days in New York City and spent USD30 million on local crew wages.
Michael Bay’s new action movie Transformers: Age of Extinction spotlights Hong Kong filming locations with an epic finale set against the backdrop of the city. The movie spent several weeks in Hong Kong and on the Chinese mainland, but also built a sprawling set in Detroit.
New superhero movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has started filming on location in Detroit. Studio work will take place at Michigan Motion Picture Studios and location filming will encompass the city of Detroit, as well as locations in Illinois, Africa and the South Pacific.
Warner Bros Television is filming the pilot for a Constantine TV series in Atlanta, Georgia. The pilot is based on the DC Comics character John Constantine, an occult conman-turned-detective who in the comics originates from Liverpool, England.
New Fox TV drama Gotham will explore the early career of James Gordon, the detective who eventually helps Batman with his fight against Gotham City’s super-villains. Filming locations for the series will need to offer tax incentives and film-friendly production infrastructure.
Russell Crowe’s new feature, family drama Fathers and Daughters, has secured a filming incentive payment to shoot in Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. The film will jump between the 1980s and the present day to tell the story of a troubled author and his strained relationship with his daughter.
Chicago had a 20% year-on-year location filming increase in 2013, mainly due to a rise in television production. The Illinois city hosted six TV series at the same time and three studio features also filmed locally one after the other.
