It seems sometimes there can be too much of a good thing. Business is booming in Malta but the Producer’s Creative Partnership (PCP) has warned that the country’s popularity is stretching local resources dangerously thin. The organisation wants to make sure Malta’s reputation stays intact.
It was a successful few days for the Producers Guild of America’s Third Annual Produced By Conference (PBC) that was held in association with the AFCI’s Location Trade Show. Over 2,200 delegates were at The Walt Disney Studios and there were more than 300 film commissions.
No fewer than eight new TV shows will be filmed in New York State throughout the 2011-12 season. The state’s expanded and revised production incentives have been credited with attracting 70 different projects so far this year, with a mix of location and studio work likely.
Keanu Reeves’ new film 47 Ronin has started filming at Shepperton Studios. The production team has spent several months building sets that recreate 18th Century Japan, including a tournament arena, a castle and a period village.
The number of audiovisual projects filming in Seville in the first five months of this year increased by 13% on the same period in 2010, according to figures from the Sevilla Film Office (SFO). But the majority (74) of the projects were Spanish, with Germany and the UK the next highest with eight each.
A colony of lesser horseshoe bats will have to be prioritised for the upcoming location shoot of Wrath of the Titans, the sequel to 2010 remake Clash of the Titans, when the film spends eight weeks filming in a Welsh quarry.
California’s existing film and TV tax credit programme is on course for a five-year extension. The State Assembly has overwhelmingly approved the bill and it will go before the Senate in the next few months.
