Location filming for television productions in Los Angeles surged in the third quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2013, according to FilmLA. The city had a big success with television drama shoots, which rose 43%, while filming for drama pilots increased by 41%.

Legendary Pictures built San Francisco on location in Vancouver for Gareth Edwards’ new adaptation of monster movie Godzilla. British Columbia also doubled for settings including Japan and the Philippines, while Hawaii stood in for the Marshall Islands in the western Pacific.
New TV series Olympus will film on location in London and Vancouver. Cable channel Syfy has ordered the series that will be set in an ancient world of gods and monsters. Reunion Pictures and Olympus TV in association with Great Point Media will produce the series.
British broadcaster Channel 4 will produce more content on location in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland from 2020, under the terms of its new licensing agreement from regulator Ofcom.
A film version of video game franchise Angry Birds will follow British Columbia’s digital animation incentive to film in Vancouver with Sony Pictures Imageworks. The game was first launched as a smart-phone app in 2009 and has since been downloaded more than two billion times.
