The BBC’s new TV nursing drama Frankie filmed on location in Bristol in south-west England, using filming facilities at The Bottle Yard. A former winery and bottling plant, The Bottle Yard has been converted into a facility that offers 300,000 square feet of production space.
Film London has been given a funding boost to help take advantage of the UK’s new TV location filming tax credit and attract more high-end television. The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has provided an extra GBP2 million to broaden Film London’s remit.
Cardiff council has set up a dedicated film unit to handle the rise in demand for location filming in the Welsh capital. The new unit will manage location filming in council-owned buildings and on city roads, and will also promote Cardiff internationally.
Elstree Studios in north-west London has secured a GBP2 million loan to help fund an expansion plan. In recent years the facility has hosted Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Oscar-winning feature The King’s Speech.
Warner Brothers has officially opened its Leavesden Studio facility near London in the UK. The studio bought the site in 2010 and has since spent GBP100 million revamping the nine separate sound stages and the 100-acre back-lot.

Over in North America the US state of Ohio is campaigning for stronger filming incentives, while the Canadian province of Alberta has streamlined what it already offers.
