Switzerland has launched a new film incentive programme for co-productions that shoot on location in the country. Entitled the Switzerland Film Investment Refund (PICS), the scheme allows co-productions to claim back between 20% and 40% on all eligible local expenditures, with a per-project cap of CHF600,000.
The BBC’s new period drama The Moonstone, starring John Thomson (Cold Feet) and Sarah Hadland (Miranda) has begun filming in North Yorkshire. The production will be conducting on location shoots at Thornton Watlass Hall, a Grade I listed Georgian country house that will serve the show’s 19th century period setting.
Loch Ness, a new drama commissioned by ITV will film at its namesake location and in the Scottish Highlands. Split into six episodes, the series will follow the lives of Detective Annie Redford and her family when a body is discovered by the Carn Mor mountain just as a human heart turns up on the shores of Loch Ness.
The new BBC series The Secret Agent, which aired its first episode on Sunday, was filmed on location in the streets of Edinburgh. Adapted from Joseph Conrad’s novel of the same name, the show stars Toby Jones (Dad’s Army) as Verloc, the owner of a 19th century sex shop who soon becomes embroiled in a plot of political espionage between Britain and Russia.
Advertising Agency DoubleDouble have enlisted the help of the Service Company Production Algarve to shoot on location throughout the Portuguese region. The project is a commercial for Keytrade bank’s newest endeavour, KEYPRIVATE which aims to provide customers with a method of discreet banking.
Production began last Friday on the upcoming BBC psychological thriller The Replacement, shooting on location in Glasgow. The programme was commissioned by the BBC’s Polly Hill in December 2015 and will consist of three episodes of 60 minutes each.
The BBC’s popular period drama, The Musketeers was filmed on location in Prague for its third and final season. Adapted from Alexander Dumas’ classic novel The Three Musketeers, the show depicts a group of highly skilled musketeers in 17th century Paris who fight to protect their King and country. The show was renewed for a third season in February 2015, with news arriving two months later that it would be the last.
The Bristol Film Office has released statistics regarding the amount of film and television productions shot within Bristol over the 2015-16 period. The report shows a 65% increase in location filming over the previous year, a staggering figure that aligns with the incredible success that the UK film industry as a whole has had in recent years.
